Our Story

Our Goals
Promote progressive policy and
halt regressive policy in NC
Elect Democrats to the
NC General Assembly
Build an engaged, informed
community of progressives
Neighbors on Call was founded in Chapel Hill, NC after the 2016 elections by Andrea Stein and Becca Zerkin. We are now a strong community of progressives in Alamance, Chatham, Durham, Orange and Wake Counties making activism our new normal.
Our goal is to bring about progressive policy and elect Democrats at the state level in North Carolina. Our focus on the state means we don't work on U.S. congressional races or push for progressive policy in DC.
Get together.
We get together to learn and take action, and we have fun while we're at it! Our Volunteer Management Team keeps us connected within our chapters. Political action is a team sport!
Learn together.
Our Policy Team keeps us up to date about policies and elected officials so we can act with confidence. Our Team covers fair representation; voting rights; gun violence prevention; immigration; criminal justice; LQBTQ rights; women's rights; and education, economic, housing, and health care policy.
Act together.
We canvass! In 2017-18, we canvassed with candidates, mostly in flippable NC House districts; 30 local Democratic Party precincts; and Flip NC - knocking on an estimated 15,000 doors.
We make our voices heard! Our Policy Teams keep an eye on the experts -- well-established advocacy groups -- so that we can amplify their calls to action. When NC NAACP asks for concerned citizens to attend a hearing or make a phone call, we're on it.
And we carpool -- because that makes it more fun.
