FAQs About Canvassing

Nervous about canvassing? You got this!

What if I’m worried about going alone?

We will never ever ask you to canvass by yourself. You’ll always have at least one partner. Plus, we carpool and chat on a text thread!

What if I’ve never canvassed before?

Don’t worry, you’re not alone! The good news is there will always be a training and opportunities to practice. And we’ll work to pair more experienced canvassers with people still getting their feet wet.

What if I don’t know what to say?

Fortunately, every canvass has a script. You don’t have to repeat the script word for word, but it’s always there for you when you need it. And the talking gets easier the more you do it!

What if I’m not good at this?

Don’t worry - like any skill, it just takes practice. Your only responsibility is to get out there and try.

What if people are mean?

Most people who take the time to answer the door are at the very least polite, and often grateful that you’re taking the time to do this. Also, one thing to know is that generally these canvasses only target Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters. If you happen to get the occasional conservative, all you’ve got to say is “Thanks for your time” and “goodbye.”

What if I’m really busy?

We feel you - everyone has a lot going on, and we don’t know what your schedule is like. What we can say is: If you’re going to do one Neighbors on Call thing, make it this. Of course we’d love to have you at our other meetings. But canvassing is the most important thing you can do in 2019 and 2020. And ultimately, taking action is what we’re all about.
