Reproductive Rights
On Thursday the North Carolina Court of Appeals withdrew a decision it had issued that parental rights can be taken away from a pregnant woman who commits a crime. The decision had been criticized for misrepresenting precedent and establishing “fetal personhood” in case law. The withdrawal of the decision, signed by a group of judges who had originally concurred with Judge Hunter Murphy’s decision, means that any precedent it would have established is erased.
